Another historical church
This church is locally known as the Candon Church.
Constructed with an earthquake resistant Baroque design.
This church was built in 1575 but destroyed by earthquake in 1948.
We were only able to visit and view the outside but I love the old structure of historical churches.
Richness and simplicity
Another jem to take in on the way to see the Miagao Church farther south. Similar to Miagao, this one features intricate floral stone carving. There is considerable evidence in the literature that the skilled building trades in the Visayas were dominated by Chinese craftsmen. Chinese architecture during the Ming and Qing dynasties exhibit fabulous stone carving, not dissimilar from that seen on the Tigbauan church façcade. The Tigbauan stone carving would appear to be another rich multicultural amalgam of influences and skills which also produced the stone carving in Miagao and San Joaquin. The facade contains most of the original elements, while the interior suffered greatly from he 1948 7.8 Lady Caycay earthquake - the interior is beautiful but largely rebuilt and decorated since that period. Another peaceful location to take in the beautiful church architecture so abundant in this area.
religious tour? this is one place to visit
The fiesta falls on the third Sunday of January. If your friends and family are on a pilgrim tour or has church visitation plans, Iloilo has a lot of awesome churches starting from Arevalo to Tigbauan, Guimbal and the famous Miag-ao church. Tigbauan church is one of the old churches in Panay island that is so beautiful, not only are the people friendly but the church contains sites that leaves one in awe. The interior colorful stone murals and mosaic altar and stations of the cross will make your trip memorable
